Demeter certification for second farm in South Africa

DARMSTADT (NNA) – There are now two farms in South Africa producing Demeter-certified produce, the biodynamic standards organisation has announced. Bloublommetjieskloof farm in Wellington grows herbs, fruit, olives, grain and feed plants in biodynamic quality on 27 hectares. It also produces liquid soap.

The farm has been using biodynamic methods since 1965 and its owner, Wendy Lilje, is a member of the South African Biodynamic Association. She has been supplying Weleda and Wala in South Africa for the last 15 years. As product manager for Weleda in the country, she was responsible for biodynamic plant cultivation, processing and the production of anthroposophical medicines.

In addition, Bloublommetjieskloof farm offers courses on biodynamic cultivation, Demeter said. There are also annual school camps for Waldorf pupils from Cape Town which involve the students in the daily work of the farm.
