Vietnamese university honours Witten-Herdecke water researcher

HANOI/WITTEN-HERDECKE (NNA). The Vietnam National University (VNU), one of the most prestigious universities in Asia, has awarded an honorary doctorate to Professor Karl-Ulrich Rudolph, expert on water treatment at the University of Witten-Herdecke (UWH) in Germany. Professor Rudolph earned this honour for his extraordinary success in applied water research as well as for his successful implementation of several projects with German and European participation in Vietnam.

Professor Rudolph, who is also an honorary guest professor at the National Economics University in Hanoi, stressed in his acceptance speech that in a globalised world, cooperation between international scientists has become vital. “The solution to various world wide water problems, which are getting increasingly more complex, can only be found through cooperation between technology and the economy,” he said.

The Institute for Environmental Technology and Management at the University of Witten-Herdecke, represented by Professor Rudolph, was probably the smallest partner of the VNU. “But different partners can work together with great success if they complement one another. This has been shown by the projects undertaken in the areas of industrial sewage treatment, water conservation and recycling management,” Professor Rudolph continued.

Without funding from the German Ministry of Education and Research, the European Research Commission and the Vietnamese government this would not have been possible. Professor Rudolph underlined that the UWH offered an excellent research environment for all who wanted to develop lasting practical solutions on an interdisciplinary and international scientific basis.
