“Faust” close up at the Goetheanum – special programme for school students
Dornach, 10 December (NNA) – The Goetheanum Stage has thought up something special for school students in connection with “Faust at the Goetheanum“ 2004, the major new staging of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s magnum opus. Young people will be able to gain a practical insight into the play which they – at least in the German speaking countries – study in school. According to a Goetheanum report, the offer not only comprises a visit to the actual performance of the piece but is supplemented by a study programme of workshops, demonstrations and introductions which will allow the students direct contact with all those involved and encourage participation. The student offer of the Goetheanum Stage centres around two “Faust Days” exclusively for school students in May 2004: outside the regular programme of performances, 5 Mai 2004 is devoted to the first part of the play. The programme starts with a workshop on the subject of “Lust” and “Pleasure”. This is followed by an introduction to and performance of individual scenes, including meetings with the actors. The second exclusive student day is devoted to the second part of the play and will be held on 19 May 2004 with the theme “Why Mephistopheles loses his bet”. In addition to these two “Faust Days”, there are also special student events at the regular weekend performances of both parts of Faust, the report says. The whole performance, which starts on Friday evening, is introduced in the afternoon by a workshop with demonstrations and a guided tour of the Goetheanum building. The dates of these “Faust Weekends” are 23 to 25 April, 30 April to 2 May, 7 to 9 May, 18 to 20 June 2004. A further workshop is offered before the performance on 15 May 2004. Other dates with workshops are: 16 May, 5 June, 6 June 2004. There will be an opportunity for the intensive study of the second part of “Faust” on 22/23 May as well as 12/13 June 2004. The two-day event will include the demonstration of a scene followed by a workshop and a guided tour of the Goetheanum. ENDS School classes should register early and applications should be made directly to the Goetheanum Stage, which can also help with accommodation: Goetheanum-Bühne, Postfach, CH – 4143 Dornach 1, Switzerland.
