Former Waldorf pupil wins arts support prize

Dornach, 29 January (NNA) – The Swiss Canton of Solothurn has awarded the former pupil of the Birseck Rudolf Steiner School in Æsch, Hilaria Greiner from Dornach, a prize of 18,000 francs ( £8,000, €11,500, US$14,400) to support her music studies.

According to a report by the Swiss Anthroposophical Media Centre (MAS), Hilaria Greiner has been studying violin at Basle Conservatory for eighteen months. In spring 2002 she won first prize at the Swiss youth music competition in La Chaux-de-Fonds. She has been attending master courses and has studied with professors in Tel Aviv, Budapest and Salzburg

Hilaria Greiner, who will receive the prize from the Cantonal Board for Support of the Arts on 6 April at Schloss Waldegg, was quoted by MAS as having particularly appreciated in her Waldorf education that it promoted the strengths of young people and placed great value on a holistic and thus also musical education which supports more than simply the intellect.

The school gave her moral and practical support in her chosen career as a musician in that it allowed her time off some lessons for more intensive practice of her instrument.
