Demeter farm Freytag in Germany turns 50
REUTLINGEN (NNA) – One of the oldest bio-dynamic enterprises in Germany, the Freytag (formerly Freß) Demeter farm on the Swabian Alb celebrates its fiftieth birthday on 9 May 2004. The annual cycle tour of 26 other farms on the Alb takes place on the same day. According to Demeter, the season starts with a market at Freytag farm of all the other farms involved in the 30 kilometre round tour. A short time later the festival celebrating the bio-dynamic farm’s birthday also starts. The Freytag family farm has been operating in accordance with Demeter guidelines since 1954, when it was converted by Karl Treß to bio-dynamic principles after he met people who had participated directly still in the agricultural course given by Rudolf Steiner. In the course Steiner set out bio-dynamic principles in response to concern by farmers about improving the quality of food. DORNACH, SWITZERLAND (NNA) – A conference to discuss issues related to peace will be held at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland from 17 to 19 May. According to the Goetheanum, it is aimed at specialists, peace researchers and activists. Panel discussions on 18 and 19 May will provide the opportunity for discussion with prominent representatives from academia and politics. The responsibility which politics can take for peace will be discussed on 18 May by Gret Haller (ombudswoman for human rights in Bosnia and author of the book “The Limits of Solidarity”), Gerald Häfner (member of the German parliament until September 2002) as well as Michæl Steiner (German ambassador in Geneva and former foreign policy advisor to German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder). On 19 Mai, Theodor Ebert (publisher since 1969 of the quarterly „Gewaltfreie Aktion“ (Non-Violent Action) and from 1989 to 1990 founding chairman of the Social Defence Association with Petra Kelly) will discuss Goethe’s understanding of peace with Ekkehart Krippendorff (from 1978 to 1999 Professor of Politics and International Relations also at the Free University Berlin as well as visiting professor in various countries and editor of numerous publications) and Ulrich Rösch (academic member of the Social Science Section of the School of Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum, Dornach), the Goetheanum said.
