Training in anthroposophical medicine planned in Egypt

Cairo (NNA) – Plans are afoot to start training Egyptian doctors in anthroposophical medicine. According to the latest issue of “Sekem Insight”, Dr.  Danielle Lemann and Dr.  Hansueli Albonico will join the Sekem medical centre near Cairo for several weeks this year to deliver an introductory course in anthroposophical medicine.

The medical centre, which covers the full range of medical services and which is part of the Sekem initiative founded by Dr.  Ibrahim Abouleish, last year celebrated its tenth anniversary. In further expansion plans, an Egyptian backer of the project has promised funding for a new cardiac centre, “Sekem Insight” reports.

The medical centre not only treats patients from Sekem but also from surrounding areas. “We are bursting at the seams and some of our medical equipment could do with replacement, “ Dr.  Hans Werner, founder of the centre, says in the report. “So we continue to rely on financial support from supporters of Sekem. But we would also like to thank everyone who so generously supported Sekem in 2005,” he added.

The Sekem initiative began as an agricultural project on the main farm near Belbes, 60 kilometres north-east of Cairo. Biodynamic methods of agriculture were developed which are suited to the different Egyptian climate. Now Sekem produces a large variety of high-quality consumer products.

As part of its holistic approach, Sekem has also established institutions related to education, applied research and health care.
