Pilot Masters programme in social banking to start this year
BOCHUM/HERNE (NNA) – Anyone working in banking and finance wishing to gain a deeper insight into social banking will be able to embark on a job-related and practice-based international Masters programme in this subject from September. The pilot course is offered by the Insitute of Social Banking in Bochum, Germany, and run by the University of Plymouth in Britain in association with the Initiative for Practice-based Research ipf in Solothurn/Switzerland. The course takes three years and is largely held in regional study groups, depending on demand, with the first groups meeting in turn in Bochum, Zeist (Holland) and Brussels (Belgium). According to the Institute of Social Banking, the course focuses on understanding the correlations between banking, financing and social issues, such as global discrimination, environment, labour, community development, education and culture, including the analysis of developments in conventional banking and financing with regard to social, ethical and ecological responsibility. Students will acquire specific management skills for organisations or companies based primarily on ethical values. “In this context the challenge is to enable you to phrase your own values and put them into perspective with regard to current monetary and economic theories and present practices,” the programme concept says. Social finance and banking is also the focus of a first summer school organized by the Institute of Social Banking at the Mont Cenis Academy in Herne, Germany, from 21-30 July. The summer school, „TransFormation“, which includes professional development and the exchange of experiences, is aimed at students and trainees, who will have the additional opportunity to network with senior managers working in ethical and ecological banking. The Institute for Social Banking (ISB) was established in 2005 as a collaborative project between ten European banks working in the field of ethical-ecological, socially motivated finance and banking. They include GLS Gemeinschaftsbank und Triodos Bank. End/nna/ung/cva www.social-banking.org Item: 060116-01EN 16 January 2005 Copyright 2006 News Network Anthroposophy Limited. All rights reserved.
